The Advanced Medical Assisting TCC program is a comprehensive program designed for students seeking to elevate their careers within the Medical Assisting profession. This program goes beyond basic medical assisting skills, equipping students with the specialized skills and knowledge required to perform both advanced clinical procedures and sophisticated administrative tasks in a medical office or healthcare setting. The Advanced Medical Assisting TCC provides a rigorous curriculum that integrates hands-on practice with theoretical learning, covering topics such as advanced patient care, diagnostic testing, medical billing and coding, and healthcare law and ethics. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for managing the complexities of modern healthcare environments. Graduates of this program will be prepared to take on more complex roles within healthcare teams, assist physicians in specialized medical procedures, manage electronic health records, and ensure smooth operational flow in medical facilities. Upon completion, students will be eligible for advanced certifications and well-positioned for career advancement in the growing field of medical assisting.

The minimum program goal is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains. All domains are taught and assessed as outlined by the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
MAERB OUTCOMES
According to the 2025 Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) Annual Report, the Medical Assisting program at Coastal Pines Technical College has an average job placement rate of 80.95%, a retention rate of 77.78%, and an average exam passage rate of 86.84% for the five years 2020 – 2024.
CERTIFICATION INFORMATION
Graduates of the Medical Assisting program are eligible to pursue several certifications, including but not limited to the following:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
PROGRAM INFORMATION
- The Medical Assisting program operates on a cohort basis, accepting new students into cohorts on the Waycross and Golden Isles campuses each fall, and requires students to take MAST classes in a rotation as prescribed by the program.
- The Medical Assisting program does not utilize a Competitive Admissions process. Students must complete a Medical Assisting Application, and are accepted on a first come-first serve basis.
- Program Length – 3 semesters
- Clinical experience is required to complete the program, and students must meet all clinical requirements as required by the clinical facility. No student will be denied admission to a program due to these requirements; however, non-completion of clinical requirements will prevent a student from completing the program. Clinical requirements may include, but are not limited to:
- American Heart Association Provider CPR Certification
- Physical examination or proof of ability to perform required duties
- Tuberculin skin test
- Up-to-date immunizations, mandatory vaccinations, and/or titers
- Criminal background check
- Drug screen
